In sales, your resume is your first pitch, and hiring managers evaluate it accordingly. If you cannot sell yourself on paper, they have little confidence you can sell their product. The single most important element of a sales resume is quota attainment. Every sales professional should lead with a clear, quantified track record: "Exceeded annual quota of $1.8M by 132%, ranking #2 out of 45 AEs in the North America region." If you consistently hit or exceed targets, that number does more persuading than any adjective.

Beyond quota numbers, strong sales resumes highlight the full sales cycle. Describe the complexity of your deals: average deal size, sales cycle length, number of stakeholders involved, and the tools you used to manage the process (Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong). If you sold into enterprise accounts, name the types of buyers you engaged (C-suite, procurement, IT). If you built outbound pipeline from scratch, quantify the number of meetings booked, opportunities created, and conversion rates at each funnel stage.

For sales leadership roles, shift the emphasis from individual contribution to team performance. Highlight the number of reps you managed, team quota attainment, ramp-time improvements for new hires, and territory or compensation plan design. If you built a sales playbook, implemented a new CRM, or drove a methodological shift (MEDDIC, Challenger, SPIN), describe the before-and-after results. Sales resumes that tell a story of progressive impact, from closing deals to building teams to shaping strategy, stand out in a crowded field.
