Set up Career Agent

Configure target roles and activate overnight searches for prepared application kits.

Before you start

Sign in, then note that Career Agent requires QuickCV Pro — Free accounts land on an upgrade prompt the moment they open Job Matches, so nothing below is reachable until you upgrade. Compare Free and Pro if you're not sure yet. You'll also need a resume, a cover letter, and at least one target role; the setup panel tracks all three as a live checklist so you can see exactly what's missing.

Career Agent isn't a separate screen. It's the Career Intent panel, one of two panels on the Job Matches page. The other, Preferences, narrows which roles show up in manual searches and in Career Agent's overnight run — see Set your job preferences if you haven't set those yet.

Configure Career Agent

  1. From the dashboard, select Set up Career Agent on the Career Agent card — this opens Job Matches with the Career Intent panel already expanded. (Free accounts see See it in action there instead, which opens the upgrade flow.) You can also open Job Matches directly and select Career Intent in the header.
  2. Add one or more target roles, selecting Add or pressing Enter after each — up to 10, 100 characters each.
  3. Set a Salary Floor (Annual) and a Remote PreferenceRemote Only, Hybrid, or On-site — if you want the agent to weigh them.
  4. Check the setup checklist for a resume, a target role, and a cover letter. If the cover letter is missing, use the button it shows to create one without leaving the panel.
  5. Turn on Activate background agent, then select Save agent setup.

Use targets you would genuinely consider so overnight searches produce useful results.

Understand the status badge

The Career Agent card badge reads Not set up until the agent is turned on, and Active once it is. There's no separate "paused" state: turning off Activate background agent and saving returns the badge to Not set up, even though your target roles, salary floor, and remote preference stay saved for next time.

Expected result

QuickCV confirms with a "Career intent updated" toast. Once active, Career Agent searches overnight and prepares an application kit — a tailored resume, cover letter, and match report — for each matching role; review and approve kits in Agent Inbox. An inbox with nothing pending is a normal empty state, not a sign setup failed.

If the checklist isn't complete, QuickCV blocks activation with the specific reason — a missing resume, target role, or cover letter — instead of a generic error.
